Peace, Love and Miles

“The bond with a dog is as lasting as the ties of this earth can ever be.”

Konrad Lorenz’s words seem fitting to begin this blog post, as we celebrate the life of our beloved, Miles Davis Sinkford. Today would have been his second birthday.

Tony and I had been planning a small, socially-distant birthday bash with a few of Miles’ closest kennel mates. You know, the kind that lasts all day and includes a menu of doggie bagels from Einstein’s for breakfast, peanut butter treats (homemade) and Puppuccinos from Starbucks for the afternoon pick-me-up, the tastiest dog food as the dinner entree, and Frosty Paws ice cream for dessert. (Yes, it is a lot of junk, but birthdays come just once a year, so we planned to pull out all the stops!) In fact, we had already bought his gift – a new black, double-stitched collar with an engraved Washington Redskins ID tag. He would have looked dashing!

With less than eight weeks of party anticipation remaining, Miles passed away. Tony and I are grateful for the many condolences sent from family and friends, yet we are still heartbroken at the loss of “Mr. Cool.”

As we walk through our grief over Miles, we are not without hope. Great memories and photos of Miles abound, and we are thankful for his legacy. We are also blessed that Miles had the opportunity to sire a beautiful litter of puppies. Too $hort, one of his four offspring, has his dad’s great build and mellow temperament. We are looking forward to breeding him to produce the “Next Gen Miles”. Indeed, we are blessed!

Although this day holds a measure of sadness, we couldn’t let it go by without a shout-out to our Tranquil Titan! Happy dog-heavenly birthday, Dear Friend! We love you, and miss you! RIP, Miles Davis!
