In the midst of the birth process for Missy’s puppies, Tony was concerned that her milk had not started to flow. After having to bottle feed the previous litter, he was anxious at the thought that we may need to do it again. I shared that human mothers’ milk doesn’t usually come in until after the birth process is completed and the baby is put on the mother’s breast. The baby’s sucking stimulates the let down and the colostrum begins to flow. I wasn’t worried. I was focused on the births, and felt confident that the process would be the same for Missy.
Although I offered reassurance, Tony was not consoled. As we continued to assist Missy, he called the vet to ask about our options. The information the vet shared did nothing to calm his nerves either, so he was back to waiting. At this point, he had two choices – panic and worry about all the possible negative outcomes, or trust the process to play out successfully. Both choices involved waiting, but how the waiting time would be spent would be very different mentally and emotionally. SPOILER ALERT! Her milk came in!

Whether waiting for a dog’s milk to come in, news about a job, results from health tests or something else, there comes a time “in the waiting” where we have two choices – panic or trust. We can attempt to take matters in our own hands, or trust the process to work through in God’s timing. Philippians 4:6-7 says:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
How are you spending your wait time?
