Apples. Cinnamon. Pumpkin Spice. Leaves. Fireplaces. Chocolate. Pecan Pie. Bonfires. Cider. Step outside, close your eyes and take a big whiff. What do you smell? I listed a few scents that are popular in the Fall, but can you smell love?
Meet Miles Davis and Millie Jackson. I love this picture. It was taken the day we brought Millie home from her Alabama birthplace. She was so cute and cuddly. We were excited to introduce her to Miles, the gallant swain. Millie was to be his young Southern Belle. He looks so confident as he stretches to inhale her scent. She had been freshly bathed and her pheromones were doing a work on his senses. Did he immediately smell love? As you look at the photo, you can almost imagine her eyelashes batting and her “Howdy-do?” as she throws her head back to flirt. I think they already knew their fate – an arranged “marriage”. Not only were they going to be kennel mates, but the ultimate intention was to have them produce a litter of puppies.
Miles and Millie grew up together, and were inseparable. They didn’t like any of the other puppies visiting their kennel space or love nest (or Igloo dog house, whichever you prefer). On the rare occasion that they had a visitor, whether male or female, you could tell they only had eyes for each other. Miles and Millie shared a real Puppy Love (pun intended), and were saved for each other.
And so it was. When the time came, they were mated and produced a beautiful litter of puppies.
A romantic at heart, I enjoy a great love story, and this has all of the elements of a Hallmark movie. Sniff! Sniff! Sniff! I smell a screenplay!
