Watching Missy nurse her puppies was always relaxing. I would dim the lights and prepare the wading pool for the puppies. The puppies slept in a puppy box, so they would get moved to the pool first, and would be joined by Missy to start the feeding.
As they nursed, Missy would clean them and they would fall asleep. After some time for skin-to-skin contact, I would send Missy to her bed for rest and debate about moving the puppies. I always hated to disturb their peaceful sleep and cuddly comfort. Although there was nothing soft or warm in the wading pool, their contact with their siblings likely resembled the womb, feeling their closeness and hearing their heartbeats. Nestled and full, they would fall into a deep sleep. I would sit and watch them for a time, and wrestle with myself about returning them to their puppy box. “I hate to wake them. They are sleeping so soundly.” I can still hear myself weighing my options. I knew I risked them waking up and disturbing their mother’s rest, but I also knew the best place for them was in their box. So, I would err on the side of safety, and put them in their box – safe and secure.

The Lord does the same to us. He allows us a time to rest in our comfort zones, around those we know and love, and then moves us for our safety. Ultimately, He moves us because He knows what we do not – what’s BEST for us. He risks, and even causes, us to wake from our peaceful slumber, to position us for receiving the blessings He has in store. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God has a plan for each of us, not to harm us, but for our good.
Today, allow Him to move you lovingly to His uniquely best location. He has a plan for each movement, and it is perfect!
