One Day or Day One?

Finding a new job. Moving to a new house. Going back to school. Working on a professional certification. Paying off your debt. Losing weight. Finally getting married. Traveling to far off places. Having a baby. Getting a dog. Some, or all, of these may be part of your vision board, goals, New Year’s Resolutions or bucket list, but what is the plan to get them to the next step?

For us, the list includes expanding the kennel. We have bought dog houses and fence panels. We have contemplated the layout of the new runs with respect to the current configuration. We have evaluated several roof styles and material options. Concrete contractors have been called for estimates. We have talked about what we want, and set the funds aside multiple times. Then another opportunity comes along, and like a squirrel chasing a nut, we change directions and defer the work. We re-visit what we say we want, but the bottom line is we have not moved toward completion.

With all of these delays, the situation begs the question – is what we say, really what we want? If so, what needs to happen to get there? If not, stop swirling in indecision and frustration, make the adjustments to the plans and move on. In our case, we definitely need to get the kennels completed. The number of dogs and the size of the house dictate the need and the growing urgency. Tomorrow has come today.

Do you have a similar situation of procrastination anchored in lack of a prioritized plan? Are you ready to make the hard decisions? Have you set a goal with a targeted deadline of something besides “someday”?

If so, let me ask you (and myself) again. One Day or Day One? You decide.
