Not How You Find it, But How You Leave It

Nearly two weeks ago, I made a trip to my daughter’s home to help with a few things. Among the tasks we had planned, was going to the store to purchase a set of box springs and get them safely home and placed for more restful sleeping. Our strategy was to meet at her home , travel together to the store, secure the box springs to the car, drive back to her home and place the box springs. At that point, it was “understood” that I would try to beat the rush hour traffic and head home. What actually happened was quite different.

Upon arrival, I went inside to observe the state of readiness to complete our undertaking. As is often the case within the first month of moving to a new place, there were boxes, furniture and other items, scattered about in several stages of “placement”. And although my daughter had started the bed assembly, it was not complete, so we had to “pivot” (2020 catch word).

SPOILER ALERT! It is extremely important to note that I LOVE to organize! Suffice it to say, in some of my finest clutter-buster hours, I defeated the chaos monster!

Since that day, I have questioned myself about why – of all times – did I not take before photos. With the exception of mental mugshots, there is no evidence. My frustration is that (on this side of the it opportunity) I have no evidence of the mountainous task I faced, so showing the finished photos is not very impactful. In this situation, few know the enormity of my success.

Does lack of physical evidence negate my victory? Of course not! And so I celebrate the power of lovingly sharing my talents, leaving it better than I found it, and knowing in my heart that I made a difference.

You may be asking, “If you are able to show pictures or give more details, then why write about it?” Well, the answer is simple. It is not how I found it, but how I left it that mattered most.

Life Proverb: Do your part and a little bit more. The rest will take care of itself.
