Psalm 102:18

What the trunk didn’t do, may the branches do!

As January 2021 is coming to a close, I have finally completed my vision board. Although I started collecting materials in December, it has taken me until now to crop the images, write the words and apply the permanent tape.

Each year, my vision board includes a focus word. In the last several years, the words have been: FORWARD, UPWARD, ONWARD, TOWARD, EMANCIPATION, PARTICIPATION and OSCULATION. This year my word is LEGACY, and it comes with the bonus word, ALWAYS.

With the births of three grandchildren in 2020 (taking our total to ten!), my thoughts have often wandered and wondered to the kind of legacy I am leaving for my children and grandchildren, and yes, even to those yet unborn. Psalm 102:18 NKJV says, “This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord.” The verse makes it plain that I need to write and keep a record of those things I want to be made known.

So as I cropped and glued pictures of my husband, parents, children (and where applicable, their spouses), grandchildren and grandpet, I also pledged to focus on redeeming the time for eternity. I want to leave an intentional LEGACY that points heavenward. I want to make and share memories of times spent together teaching, learning and having fun. I want to share the rich heritage that was passed to me, and leave my mark as well. I am not willing to leave my legacy to happenstance, or worse, not leave one worth passing along.

And that’s where the bonus word, ALWAYS, comes in. In all that I work with intention to impart, I want to make sure that my life points to God. My parents and grandparents shared God’s great faithfulness, and I want to pass that to my offspring. My spiritual legacy to them must reflect the “ALWAYS” of God.

  • God will always be with them.
  • He will always love them.
  • He will always forgive their sins.
  • He will always listen to them.
  • He will always comfort them.
  • He will always provide for them.
  • He will always remember them.
  • He will always work on their behalf.
  • He will always lead them with love.
  • He will always bless their obedience to Him.
  • He will always come through for them.
  • And, He will always answer their prayers.

The Lord is wonderful, and His character is unfailing. I believe He will honor my heart’s desire as I give Him the glory for the things He has done and will do.
