Wake Up!

Wipe your eyes, and look around . . . It’s Lenten Season!

Lent means the 40 weekdays between Ash Wednesday and Easter. During this time, it is popular for Christians to observe a period of fasting and a time of repentance. It is also a time to reflect on what happened during the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Prior to Ash Wednesday, I was asked several times, “What are you giving up for Lent?” In the past, I have given up sweets, sodas and other comfort foods. I have also set aside time to read my Bible more, exercise and help others.

This year, I have decided to spend the season being more mindful of God and His glory, and to create a space to appreciate His presence. I have been given the gift of pandemic-related unemployment, and have been using time to recognize what matters most. I want to use Lent 2021 to better center my life on the One who died for me, to pause and stand in awe of His creation and His provision, and to praise and worship Him in life’s “dailies”.

Be encouraged to pause and look outside. Make note of what you see and what brings you joy. Whatever it is, it has been there waiting for you to notice. When you record it, remember to thank the One who made it.
